Town to make decision on French trialist Audel

Hatters assistant boss Alan Neilson confirmed a decision would be made on French trialist Thierry Audel, who played for Hatters in their Beds Senior Cup defeat at Arlesey Town on Tuesday night, writes Mike Simmonds.

The Luton number two said: “He’s trained with us now for a week.

“It was hard for us to really tell what he’s got as the pitch was difficult.

“He seems a very attacking full back, we’ll have a meeting with the staff and see where we go from there.”

Audel, 25, who has his own personal website, has turned out for Auxerre reserves and played one season with Slovenian side MNK Izola, before moving to the Italian Serie B club US Triestina Calcio.

He has also had trials with Portsmouth and on how he turned up at Kenilworth Road, Neilson continued: “He was recommended to us.

“A lot of players at this time of year get recommended and we’ll bring the ones in we think are worth having a look at.

“We’re not a club who will bring trialists in for the sake of trialists, they have to be highly recomended by agents or ex-players that we know.

“His English is quite good. We’ve got Arnaud Mendy who speaks French, so he’s quite pally with him.

“He’s fitted in fine so we’ll wait and see what happens on that one.”

With the transfer window opening in just over a week, Neilson isn’t worried about losing players like Andre Gray as he added: “We brought Andre to the club and don’t bring them here to sell them.

“We want them to play for Luton Town, get us back to the Football League, and Andre is an important part of the squad.”
