Town unfazed by FA Cup exit at Welling

Assistant boss Terry Harris doesn’t believe that Town’s FA Cup exit at the hands of Welling earlier this month will have any bearing on tomorrow’s Skrill Premier clash between the two sides at Kenilworth Road, writes Mikes Simmonds.

Hatters went down 2-1 to the Wings despite a rousing second half display as he said: “We made a couple of changes and we chose a side that we thought would get a result at Welling in that particular game.

“The records show that the following league game we won when we made a few changes.

“The league is the important guide and we’ll be as strong as we can be.

“We know through recent experiences when we went to Welling in the FA Cup, it was a tough game.

“They’ll come to Luton in good spirit and John (Still) has gone on record saying that there are no easy games.”

Boss John Still didn’t feel like the game was about Hatters gaining revenge over their opponents either as he said: “I’ve seen quite a bit of Welling, it’s not far from where I live, so I know the club really well.

“They’re having a decent season, they beat us in the FA Cup, but the cup’s a cup, this is league football.

“Someone mentioned it before, it is revenge, but you can’t have revenge for the FA Cup as we got beaten.

“I wasn’t too disappointed with the manner we got beaten, we should have played first half as we did the second half and that’s something we could have rescued.

“But that’s gone, we’re comfortable with how we’re playing, the players we have fit, and we’re more than comfortable about playing at home.”

Although Still had the ideal scouting position from the dugout as his Town team were beaten, he has still done some extra homework too.

The boss continued: “We watched their last game. You don’t learn too much at times, sometimes the smallest things make a great bit of difference though and you pick something up that you missed the time before, or wasn’t as evident as the time before.

“Or the player does something different from the time before and you might get a weakness from that.

“But at the end of the day, it’s about what you do. I believe if this team plays to its maximum, there’s not many teams that can beat us.”

Hatters are finally back at home for the first time since October 12 after six straight away games and Harris was looking to walking out at Kenilworth Road once more.

He added: “It’s fantastic to be at home.

“We’ve been all round the country and done some miles, so it’s nice to come back in front of our own supporters.”
