Town’s strikers not feeling the pressure

Hatters duo Paul Benson and Alex Wall don’t believe there is any extra pressure on the club’s strikers this season after the recent departure of Andre Gray.

Gray, who bagged 30 goals for the club as they romped to the Skrill Premier title, left Kenilworth Road to join Championship side Brentford.

The forward also won the division’s golden boot award, but when asked if he felt Gray’s exit would increase the burden on the other forwards, Benson said: “There’s always pressure as a forward to score goals, no more so because Andre’s gone.

“The fact that Andre’s not here means someone’s got to step up and score the goals that he did last year.

“That’s only natural that a forward who comes in should be expected to score goals, so I don’t think there’s any added pressure.”

Wall, who scored four times for Town last year, and six in a productive loan spell at Dartford, was of the same opinion.

He said: “I wouldn’t call it pressure, I just think all of us want to step into his boots and replicate what he did last season.”

Benson had struck up a superb partnership with Gray during his time at Kenilworth Road, but knew that a move up the football pyramid was always a possibility.
