Town’s wingmen earn Owusu praise

STRIKER Lloyd Owusu was full of praise for Hatters’ wingmen Robbie Willmott and Claude Gnakpa as they tore apart relegated Eastbourne Borough on Saturday, writes Mike Simmonds.

The final scoreline of 3-0 flattered Town’s visitors as they could and should have racked up a whole lot more.

Willmott’s goal was the pick of the bunch, finding the corner of the net from 25 yards, while Gnakpa was at his mercurial best throughout the match.

Owusu said: “Robbie does that all day in training. He’s got that in the locker in abundance. Claude as well. They create opportunities for themselves and other players.

“Claude can be frustrating. You attack the near post and think he’s going to deliver, then he chops and you have to take another move.

“But we know what kind of player Claude is. He’s a match winner and we’re happy with that.”

Owusu himself returned to the starting line-up after a seven-game absence and was delighted to be back in front of the Kenilworth Road faithful once more.

He said: “It was brilliant. The fans were excellent, they were our 12th man. We just worked hard as a team, we knew we had to make sure we got three points to guarantee the play-offs and that’s what we did.

“The gaffer said to me, ‘Lloyd just go and do what you’ve got to do’. That’s what I’m here to do, to play football and try and score as many goals as you can.

“To be out there again with the boys and in front of the home crowd, I’m really happy with it.

“No disrespect to Eastbourne, there were a lot of chances in the first half. I had a few I should have buried, Claude had a couple more, Jason (Walker) had a couple.

“It could have been one of those six or seven nil victories, but 3-0 is the main thing. A good team performance and a clean sheet.”
