Tyler: Daggers reunion is just another fixture

Hatters keeper Mark Tyler won’t be treating Sunday’s trip to Dagenham & Redbridge as a special occasion despite the links between the clubs.

Luton are managed by John Still, who spent over nine years in charge at Victoria Road, with Terry Harris as his assistant.

Current Hatters Craig Mackail-Smith, Paul Benson and Scott Griffiths are just three of the Luton squad who were signed by Still when at Dagenham, with Magnus Okuonghae, Danny Green, Luke Wilkinson and Ryan Hall all playing for the Essex side too.

Tyler said: “There’s the connections the gaffer and the staff have and a few of the players, but we’ll treat it as another game.

“It’s not a special game for the team, just three points on show and hopefully we can come away with a nice win.

“People are working hard up until Sunday, nothing will change, we’ll do our preparation like we do for a Saturday game, so it’s no different.”

Hatters have a few injury worries for the match with Dan Potts, Sean Long and Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu all forced off during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Plymouth Argyle.

Tyler continued: “It’s a squad game, we’ve got a great squad and gaffer has a difficult choice in naming his best 11 for each game.

“Everyone’s got to work hard and do well in games to keep your shirt.

“Pelly was unlucky as he picked up an injury after he hit the advertising board and you could see he was struggling a little bit at half time.

“He played really well and it’s unfortunate, but someone else has got to step in now.

“Hopefully it’s not too bad and he’ll be in for treatment and we’ll see how he is.

“Hopefully he’s fit for Sunday, and although injuries are part and parcel of football, it would be nice if we kept everyone fit.

“If it doesn’t happen, that’s why we’ve got a good squad as Josh (McQuoid) came on and scores, so we have got strength in depth.

“It’s just getting everybody on the same wavelength and has taken a little bit more time so far.”
