Tyler grabs Luton News player of the year award

IT’S been a good week for Hatters goalkeeper Mark Tyler as he celebrated signing a new contract at Kenilworth Road, by winning the Luton News player of the season award, writes Mike Simmonds.

Tyler comfortably came out on top of the readers poll, winning 62 per cent of the vote, while left-back Jake Howells was second with 17 per cent, with Freddie Murray, Keith Keane and Claude Gnakpa finishing joint third.

The 34-year-old has made 94 appearances for Hatters, including 54 last season, and put pen to paper on a 12-month deal on Friday, as did fellow keeper Kevin Pilkington, who has also agreed to stay for another year.

The former Peterborough man also won the Supporters Player Of The Year award, while Pilkington, who started his career at Old Trafford, was restricted to just seven appearances.
