Tyler praise for Town’s miserly defence

Hatters goalkeeper Mark Tyler hasn’t been surprised by his side’s miserly defence this season.

Town have conceded a mere 11 goals in 16 games so far, a record bettered only by Plymouth Argyle.

But with nothing being left to spare in training, Tyler, who kept a club record 23 clean sheets last season, said: “We work on our back four week in week out, that’s one of our strengths.

“We’re very disciplined and if we go through all our goals conceded, I don’t think many people have broken us down.

“The gaffer says if you don’t concede from restarts you win the league.”

Tyler himself has been a large part of that as although he hasn’t been hugely overworked this season, he has made a number of stops at crucial times.

At the weekend it was from Exeter’s Graham Cummins when the striker was clean through, while the week before, he saved from Northampton’s Alex Nicholls with the scores goalless, in a game Town went on to win 1-0.

The modest keeper also believes his side are benefitting greatly from fielding a settled back four in the past five matches.
