Tyler: Preparation was key for first clean sheet

Luton had gone into the game conceding 13 goals in their opening seven matches, a stat that Still had highlighted during his pre-match press conference.

Despite a nervy final half an hour where the Stags piled forward, Hatters made sure of the shut out as Tyler praised Town’s boss afterwards, saying: “The gaffer got all the defence together, all the midfielders and all the forwards and went through every goal we had conceded.

“We looked at it all week, went out on the training ground and worked on it. Bar a few slips and mistakes that you’re going to get in games, I thought we were okay.

“It’s been frustrating that it’s our first clean sheet in 11 games after conceding all the late goals, but it was nice to get off the mark and I thought we defended well.

“You can see it was a little bit nervy towards the end, but we held firm and got the job done.”

Tyler himself played a key role in Town’s defence not being breached, making some crucial saves from Matt Green, Craig Westcarr and Adi Yusuff.

He continued: “It was pleasing. There were two half chances for them really and the grass was a bit long for the second one, (Westcarr’s effort that threatened to trickle in) so I’ve got to give the groundsman a pat on the back.”

Tyler is confident that Hatters will continue to improve at the back as they integrate all the summer signings, plus eradicating their mistakes.

He added: “It’s just shoring up and being collectively defensively minded when we haven’t got the ball and cutting out the individual errors, myself included.

“The only way you can do it is working hard on the training ground and putting everything right.

“The more game time everybody gets and gets used to each other helps as it’s a great squad.

“We’ve got great ability as I see it in training every day, so once everything gels and clicks, I think it will be hard to stop us going up the table.”
