Tyler urges Hatters to become more ruthless in both boxes

Hatters goalkeeper Mark Tyler has urged his side to become more ruthless in both boxes if they are going to be a force in League Two this season.

The Town stopper saw his side concede a fifth stoppage time goal at the weekend as they were beaten 2-1 by leaders Plymouth Argyle.

Hatters had looked to have secured a point through Josh McQuoid’s second half equaliser, only for ex-Luton forward Ryan Brunt to steal victory at the death.

Tyler said: “I thought we played really well second half, we were on top and we just needed to score to ease the pressure a little bit.

“But the game is 95 minutes or whatever it is, we’ve got to see it out and we’ve got to be more ruthless in both boxes.

“It’s a ricochet in the box, fell to his feet, everyone’s gutted as I thought we deserved something out of the game.

“It’s come out of nothing, you’ve got to defend it well, if it’s got to go in the stand or row Z, it’s got to go in the stand.

“You can’t work on it, you’ve just got to be mentally switched on for the 95 minutes.

“I can understand if it’s individual errors but it wasn’t.

“I think Cuths (Scott Cuthbert) has blocked a shot and its just fallen straight to his feet and he’s put it in.

“It’s not something we can control, so we’ll still look at the goals on Monday and hopefully we can shut up shop to the end of the game.”

Once again, Hatters could only find the net once on home soil, making it a mere nine goals in eight games this season.

That’s in direct contrasts to their prolific away scoring form, where Town are the division’s second leading scorers, notching 16 times.

On just why they have found it so hard to replicate that form at Kenilworth Road, Tyler continued: “We’re putting decent balls in the area, but I don’t know if we’re a bit anxious in front of goal.

“We do a lot of shooting in training and it’s not as if we don’t practice it.

“It’s frustrating as we’re playing all right, we’re just not getting that bit of luck, one off the backside or making the keeper make a save.

“At home, because you do tend to not over play, we try and rush it to go too quickly instead of getting that extra pass in.

“In training we pass, pass and pass all the time, so it’s just transferring what we do on the training ground into the matches at home.

“At time its got to go long as we’re defending and have got pressure on us, but away from home we’ve been very good.

“So it’s just relaxing on the ball, have a bit of control and get that extra pass in.”
