Tyler wants Posh cup clash to finally kickstart Hatters’ league campaign

Town head to a Posh side who are one of the in-form teams in the country at the moment, winning their last five games in all competitions and scoring 17 goals.

With Luton struggling in 14th place and suffering back-to-back defeats, Tyler said: “With the forward players we’ve got at the club we know we can score goals.

“We know that if we can hold teams and defend solidly, not be too open, we are a team to be reckoned with.

“It’s just getting over that first hurdle of winning a game, getting the confidence back and it would a great game to do that on Sunday.

“Hopefully that can kickstart us into the Christmas period, which is always important, as that’s where I think the league can distance itself.

“You can see the teams who are going for relegation or promotion, so we want to be in that top half, all guns blazing, and going for promotion.”

Automatic appears a long way beyond Luton at the moment, trailing all of the top three by 14 points, but Tyler is retaining belief.

He continued: “Definitely, we won’t give up until it’s not mathematically possible.

“It’s been a goal of ours from the start of the season and if we go on quite a few games unbeaten, I think we’ll be right up there.

“We know the gaffer’s teams finish strong, we’ve got the quality in the squad, everyone’s got the belief.

“Hopefully we can get on a run starting on Sunday and that can kickstart our league campaign again.”

Tyler knows it won’t be easy though against a side who in full flow under new manager Graham Westley, with the ex-Stevenage boss winning nine out of his first 13 matches.

He added: “Graham’s a great manager, he knows the ins and outs of League One and League Two.

“It didn’t work out for him at Preston, but he went back to Stevenage and got them into the play-offs last year.

“He’s a respected manager throughout the league and has got the squad there.

“He’s got some young hungry players who want to do well and mixed in with a few old people, so they’ll do quite well.”
