The Hatters had been linked with a move for the 24-year-old who was a free agent following his release by Macclesfield Town.

Morgan-Smith had asked for a chance to impress Town boss John Still, but only completed one training session with the Hatters and has since moved back to Aggborough where he was on loan last season from the Silkmen.

Speaking at today’s press conference, Still said: “He wanted to come in but I’ve only seen him once and haven’t seen him since.”

Morgan-Smith netted 18 goals in 48 appearances during two seasons with the Hatters after joining from Ilkeston.

He failed to shine for Macclesfield last term, netting four times in 28 appearances, and he scored once in five games when on loan at Kidderminster.

However, the Hatters will continue to monitor the trialists that impressed in Tuesday’s 3-1 development win against Stevenage.

Still added: “I like to bring players in that people who work for us have recommended and have a look and see where we are.

“It’s a way that we’ve found lots of our players so it was good and we thought one or two did well.

“And we’ll get one or two more plus the ones that we liked from that game to play in a development game on Tuesday at Brentford.

“I like to bring them in and see where they are and sometimes you find that little nugget.”
