Hatters defender Alex Lacey refused to point the finger of blame at ex-Southport man Shaun Whalley after his second half penalty saved in the Hatters’ 1-0 loss at Southport on Saturday, writes Mark Wood.

On Whalley, who had netted two in pre-season, he said: “You can’t really blame him, he’s been doing well and it’s just a shame that he misses one in the games that matter.”

Although Solomon Taiwo assumed the responsibility during last night’s 2-0 win over Salisbury City, midfielder Luke Guttridge added: “Shaun stuck a penalty in last week, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.”
