Wall thrilled to break his Hatters duck

The forward hadn’t scored in his first 10 games for the club, but broke his duck just four minutes in and then added a coolly-taken second late on.

Wall said: “I felt up to speed for the first time since I’ve been here. It’s taken me a little and I’m happy with the two goals and the three points for the team.

“Jake (Howells) put it on a plate for me and it’s always good for confidence (to score). Confidence is a big factor in my game, it helped to get me through the whole game and took the pressure off me a bit.

“The first I just tried to get a clean contact on it. I’ve a few blunders this season already so just tried to bundle it over the line and make sure it went in.

“The second was a good ball over the top, the balls I thrive on. The keeper came rushing out and I just had to put it into the empty net. I had a little moment, but it was good to see it drop over. I got a bit of banter for the celebration, but as long as we get three points, I don’t mind.

“I tried to get my hat-trick at the end but it eluded me.”

Wall could have possibly notched a treble, but Scott Rendell opted to shoot rather than play his unmarked forward partner in, although Wall laughed it off saying: “I said to him if it was me, I’d have shot as well so I forgive him.

“Me and Scott share lifts, so we’re quite close. He was getting in the holes and I was going in behind which is my game, so we worked well together.

“We all work hard in training, the gaffer knows and all the boys know the way we want to be playing, so whoever comes in knows the gameplan and I thought we did it quite well.”

On the impression that Wall has made to the squad, recalled midfielder JJ O’Donnell said: “The first one maybe he’s just nodded it over with his nose or whatever he’s scored with, but he’s scored and the second one’s a great finish.

“He’s a top lad. He’s never been in professional football before and it’s taken a toll on his body, but he’s been brilliant. He worked hard every day in training, he’s got a great frame on him, he’s built, he’s strong, he’s quick when he gets going and he can finish as you see.”

Hatters visit Southport tomorrow and Wall is desperate to be involved again, adding: “I don’t want the season to finish to be honest.

“I’m just up to speed and it’s shame that it’s ending for me. The boys need a rest, they’ve had a long season, I’ve had a long season myself, so hopefully we can get there next season.”

Wall is expected to sign permanently at Kenilworth Road in the summer after joining on loan from Maidenhead, but when asked if everything had been agreed, he somewhat surprisingly answered: “I don’t want to answer that one.”
