Whose on the spot next for Hatters?

Crow the likely taker

DISAPPOINTED Hatters boss Richard Money admitted his side have plenty of work to do after missing from the spot three times in Tuesday night’s defeat of Mansfield, writes Mark Wood.

Town have now wasted four spot-kicks this term, but Money was not too condemning of his players’ efforts.

He said: “That’s four we’ve missed this year, thanks for reminding me.

“I do know who will take the next one.

“I thought the first two, the second one especially, was an outstanding save.

“I don’t think Danny Crow could have hit it much better and he put it right in the corner.

“The third one is what it is and I’m not going to talk about that either.”

And Money hinted that Claude Gnakpa should not have taken the first saying: “You can draw your own conclusions. I’m not saying any more than that.”

Striker Crow would appear to have been the intended taker, with Money saying: “I’m really pleased for him.

“I wanted to get him on the scoresheet so maybe that will give you a clue.

“Goalscorers thrive on scoring goals and he has been a bit unfortunate.

“He has been banging on my door for an opportunity and he has taken it and fair play to him.”

Despite missing from the spot, Crow is up for taking the next one, although new arrival Amari Morgan-Smith is also keen.

Crow, who later scored his first goal for the club, said: “I tried to focus, I don’t know what he gave the retake for.

“It was a good save. I’ve had a penalty against him before and he got a hand to it, but it still went in.

“He is a very good keeper, he is a League keeper like Tyles and Pilks are. It was just one of those things. It was a good save.

“I will go home and know I should have scored that. It’s something for me to deal with.

“Luckily enough I scored and if I get a penalty Saturday I will be confident enough to take it.”

Morgan-Smith added: “I said I’m on the next one. If we got another penalty I would be the one to take it.

“I wouldn’t mind taking penalties. I took penalties at Ilkeston and had a good record from the spot.

“It’s up to the gaffer who takes penalties and I’ve got to concentrate on performing on the pitch.”
