The defeat, Town’s second in succession, has seen them concede seven goals in two games and now take just one point out of a possible nine.

Pressure is beginning to mount on Luton’s boss from some sections of supporters, but when asked if he felt Still was the right man to turn things around, Wilkinson said: “Of course he is, I don’t know why every time we win, it seems to be we’re brilliant and we lose, it’s ‘oh god, can they do it?’

“But that’s football for you, we’re 100 per cent behind the manager and his coaching staff and hopefully the fans can be 100 per cent behind him too.

“We’ve got the quality in the squad as we’ve got Greeny (Danny Green), Paddy McCourt, Jack Marriott, Cam McGeehan, they’re all top, top players.

“Just because we’ve lost a few games in a row, it can’t be all doom and gloom, we’ve just got to get on with it and pick up hopefully.

Although the result saw Luton now trail the top three by 14 points, with Plymouth, Oxford and Northampton all on 40 points now, Wilkinson wasn’t giving up hope on automatic promotion.

He added: “It’s never out of the picture, other teams might slip out and we could go on an unbelievable run so you can never say never.

“But first of all we’ve got to work hard and get back to winning ways.

“I think away from home we’ve got to a bit more solid and pick up a few draws then win your home games, maybe we’ve just got to sit down as a squad and go through it like that.”
