Wilkinson reserves high praise for Tyler

Hatters defender Luke Wilkinson was full of praise for goalkeeper Mark Tyler after the 0-0 draw at York City on Tuesday night.

The Town stopper pulled off two excellent stops to preserve Luton a point, while he also made a number of vital saves in the 1-0 win over Cheltenham at the weekend.

Wilkinson said: “”He’s a seasoned pro, been there and done it and at the moment he’s pulling off some unbelievable saves when he’s called upon.

“He’s always there, you can always hear him behind you and it’s good to have someone like that behind you, who’s confident in what he does.”

On the night, Luton could and should have won, as Alex Lacey and Mark Cullen missed fine chances, while Luke Rooney was wonderfully denied by Tyler’s opposite number Michael Ingham.

The defender continued: “We’re disappointed, we felt we should have won the game, we should have had two or three goals at the end of the game.

“But to come away from and get a point, another clean sheet, two on the bounce now, is important for us a team and we’re putting an unbeaten run together.

“Another night those chances would have gone in and we would have won the game comfortably.

“But it wasn’t to be, we’ve held on, got a point, the team’s coming together.

“We’re starting to build on what we’ve done in pre-season and fingers crossed we can keep the unbeaten run going.”

Wilkinson was playing his second game in the space of three days after being rested recently and added: “I don’t feel too bad, but it’s been two tough games.

“We felt should have won (against York), but we’ll move on to Cambridge on Saturday.”
