The 23-year-old centre half, who penned a one year deal after Luton paid an undisclosed fee, was named player of the year at Victoria Road in 2012-13, where he had been given his opportunity by now Town boss John Still.

There had been talks of Premier League clubs intersted in his services, but they never materialised and Wilkinson was desperate to link up with Still once more.

He said: “I think maybe it’s a trust thing, but he obviously likes me as a player.

“He’s brought me in, given me another chance to prove my worth and I bit off John Still’s hand when he wanted to take me.

“He signed me before, gave me my chance in the Football League with Dagenham so I’ll be forever grateful to him for doing that.

“I can’t wait to come here and produce the performances I did when I was at Dagenham.”
