Winger delighted with Luton’s character

Gnakpa never doubted Hatters would come through

DETERMINED Claude Gnakpa hailed the Hatters’ character following their 1-0 win at Hayes & Yeading on Tuesday night, writes Mark Wood.

The Town matchwinner said: “It’s what we need at the moment. Determination in this kind of game.

“It (the goal) came from me but it could have been from any player.

“It was a difficult game, they played well and defended well. We had few opportunities until I scored.

“Three points though and we are very pleased.

“We showed character, big character, because we are not used to coming to half time with no goals. To even win 1-0, it’s still three points.”

On his goal, Gnakpa continued: “I think one deflection but most importantly the ball went in the back of the net.

“I controlled the second ball and they let me turn and when I did I was in front of the goal and it was my only thought.”

The Frenchman never doubted Luton would prevail, saying: “No never. Even on Saturday against Rushden we knew one moment in the game we would score.

“We have great strikers and a good midfield and know we can score any time.”

But Gnakpa admitted an early goal could have made it far easier for the Hatters. The 27-year-old continued: “If in the first half we score the first goal straight away the game would become more easy, because we didn’t it became more difficult.

“For every team that plays Luton Town it’s a cup final.”

Gnakpa’s strike could prove crucial in the title race, with the winger saying: “Probably and that’s why it’s so important to come to places like that and win 1-0.

At the end of the season these three points could count for the title because we want to win this league.

“It’s our aim and we are confident we can do it.”

Unlike Saturday there was no silky dance steps as Gnakpa added: “No dancing celebration, but it will come.”
