The emergence of youngsters Peter Kioso, Sam Beckwith and Avan Jones has been one of the main positives for manager Nathan Jones during Town’s brief pre-season campaign.

With the quick turnaround ahead of the new Championship term, Luton played just four games in preparation for next weekend's Carabao Cup opener against Norwich City, with the trio all getting plenty of minutes in the full back berths.

Kioso and Beckwith featured heavily in the 3-0 victory at Northampton on Saturday, both performing well in their 60-minutes on the pitch, while Jones also impressed in his late cameo, as Luton scored three goals after they made a host of substitutions.

Boss Jones said: “That’s one of the real pleasing things, Sam Beckwith I thought was excellent, Avan Jones was excellent and that’s been good.

“Ironically we haven’t got people in in those positions at the moment, more established ones.

"So it’s given those an opportunity and fair play they’ve taken it.

"I’ve been really, really impressed and I’ve been pleased with them.”

Hatters kept their League One opponents at arms length during the contest, making it four shut outs from their four matches thus far.

Jones added: "It’s a clean sheet and that’s the important thing as the squad’s going to be called upon.

"As post Covid or lockdown, they all were called upon and it’s going to be the same again as it’s a long season, 46-plus cup games, so we’re going to have to rely on everyone."
