The 21-year-old had a marvellous first campaign at Kenilworth Road last term, finishing as the club’s top scorer with 16 goals in all competitions.

Seven of those came in the 19 appearances he made after Jones took over, as on his hopes for the 2016-17 season, Marriott said: “I certainly am aiming to do better than last year, as I’m always looking to improve and certainly with the new manager, I know under his guidance I can certainly better myself than last year.”

The former Ipswich forward will once again set himself goal targets, although he prefers to keep those to himself as he added: ““I have a rough idea of how many goals I want, but not anything out of the ordinary.

“I tend to keep it quiet because from a personal point of view, I figure if I tell people and then massively under-achieve, I’d feel a bit disappointed in myself.

“So I’d rather just keep it under wraps and do as best as I can do, then I’ll hopefully achieve it.”
