McGeehan believes Luton are on the up under Jones

The 20-year-old, who was signed permanently by previous boss John Still in the summer, scored a brilliant winner as Luton triumphed 1-0 at play-off chasing Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

McGeehan was quick to pay tribute to Still’s influence on his career to date, but has seen enough from the new manager in training to believe Town could be on the verge of something special going forward.

He said: “John Still was amazing for me, gave me my chance, so I’m always grateful to him, he’s a great manager.

“His time came to an end like it does with everyone.

“You see it with (Jose) Mourinho, see it with (Alex) Ferguson, but Nathan Jones has come in and has been unbelievable for me and for the team.

“The standard of training has been driven right up, the meetings we have are very in-depth and it’s a completely different approach.

“It’s very much about tactics and that’s good for me especially as I want to learn and I want to learn as much as I can from Nathan Jones, because he knows so much about how to be a footballer as well.”

McGeehan has also been utilised in a far more central role recently during Jones’ brief spell in charge, as opposed to stints out wide at times under Still.

He reached double figures in stunning style at the weekend, scoring from fully 25 yards in his role just behind the strikers, and believes it’s a position he can thrive in.

McGeehan continued: “I enjoy every experience and can learn a lot from playing out wide and working on parts of my game, but I’m not a winger, that’s not what I’ve been playing as a youngster.

“If the gaffer here wants me to fill in anywhere I would, but I think I’m better deployed in the middle and in the 10 position or deeper.

“Because we’re more of a passing team now so I can get on it and do stuff and chances are being created as well.”
