McQuoid scores from the spot as Hatters are held by Cards

Town boss Nathan Jones handed club captain Scott Cuthbert his first start of pre-season, with the skipper playing for an hour, while youngsters Frankie Musonda, Craig King Akin Famewo, Tyreeq Bakinson and Cameron McJannett were all in, plus Jordan Cook and recent signing Isaac Vassell.

Woking went close early on as Gozi Ugwu headed inches over, before Josh McQuoid and Cook lined well for Vassell to bring a fine save out of home keeper Michael Poke.

Cook then shot straight at Poke from 20 yards, while Bakinson had two efforts, looping header, plus a right-footed blast that sailed well over.

Hatters then took the lead on 25 minutes when McQuoid took Cook’s pass in his stride, before being felled by the onrushing Poke for a penalty that the striker took himself, slotting into the bottom corner.

Musonda fired wide, before Vassell couldn’t direct McJannett’s inviting cross goalwards as Town stopper King, got down smartly to stop Ugwu’s header.

After the break, Cuthbert climbed highest to nod wide from a corner, before the captain had to clear Chike Kandi’s shot on the edge of the six-yard box.

With an hour gone, Luton started to ring the changes, with Olly Lee and James Justin on, but Woking levelled on 65 minutes, Charlie Carter turning Fabio Sairava’s corner home.

Hatters almost regained the lead immediately, Justin’s cross met by McQuoid as Poke clawed his attempt away, while Famewo was wide with his effort too.

Cameron McGeehan and Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu came on for Bakinson and McQuoid, as Woking almost took the lead for the first time, Delano Sam-Yorke shooting over.

McGeehan stabbed off target, before boss Jones introduced another member of the youth team, with striker Freddie Hinds replacing Vassell, while first year pro Liam Gooch taking over from King in goal too.

Late on, McGeehan’s effort was charged down as Hatters couldn’t find a winner, but once again, plenty of positive were taken ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Walsall.
