Molten Spartan SML round-up: Caperhorn nets winner as Totternhoe progress

Totternhoe edged to a 1-0 victory over Mursley United in round one of the Molten Spartan SML Challenge Trophy on Saturday, Gary Capehorn scoring the 44th-minute winner.

Pacesetters Kent Athletic triumphed 5-1 at Hale Leys United in their top-of-the-table clash to remain clear at the top of Divsion Two.

Kent got off to a flying start with three goals in the first 20 minutes through Shipla Miah (11), Craig Meyrick (18) and Alex Bennett (30).

Tom Brindley pulled a goal back from the spot after Kent conceded a needless penalty, but further pressure from the visitors led to Pat Daly netting a brace to seal victory.

The 61 FC (Luton) won 3-1 at Aston Clinton thanks to goals from Luke Lincoln (55), James Potter (58) and Michael Sinclair (70), with Ronnie Cozens replying on 71 minutes.

Beds Intermediate Cup second round action saw AFC Dunstable Res lose 2-0 at Beds SA, Crawley Green Res won their eighth successive game under new manager Ronnie Bates and assistant Dave Padgett, 6-0 at Brickhill Tigers thanks to an Anthony Wright hat-trick and goals from Liam Toomey, Simon Gibbons and skipper Jamie Sawyer, Kent Athletic Res triumphed 6-1 at Christians in Sport with braces from Cameron Morton and Joshua Langlias alongside strikes from Rhys Calvano and Cameo Christophe, Totternhoe Res went down 4-2 at Elstow Abbey and the The 61 FC (Luton) Res defeated Luton Boys Seniors 3-1 on penalties after the game had finished 1-1.

Crawley Green host Wodson Park in Division One on Wednesday night, while Totternhoe entertain Harefield United in the second round of the Challenge Trophy on Saturday.
