AFC Dunstable were stunned 3-1 at home by Oxhey Jets at Creasey Park in the Molten Spartan SML Premier Division on Saturday.

After the green shoots of recovery at the Cockfosters game this result, against a side that had lost their last 11 games, was a backward step for manager Steve Heath.

He said: “Full respect to Oxhey Jets today as they deserved their win.

“We had too many players today not on the ball, but that’s football. Onwards and upwards to Wednesday night when we travel to play Hadley.”

With Matt Langston ruled out with a calf niggle, in came Jack Lauder, but it was the Watford side who showed the greater determination.

Jets made the perfect start as poor defending allowed Adam Lowton to open the scoring on three minutes.

AFC huffed and puffed for most of the first half without really creating any significant chances.

Oxhey refused to let up in the second half and doubled their lead on 57 minutes when Chris Killer wouldn’t give up on a lost cause and Joe Kelly was on hand to make it 2-0.

The visitors’ centre-half pairing proceeded to keep AFC’s forwards in check and they scored a third from a classic counter-attack from a corner.

Bekim Culaj shot was blocked and Jets broke at pace as Lee Armitt was on hand to score from close range on 69 minutes.

AFC rallied in the final 10 minutes with James Bishop netting a consolation with six minutes to go, but it was too little too late.

This Wednesday AFC head to Hadley, on Saturday AFC visit Stotfold and the following Tuesday go to London Tigers.

Attendance: 67.
