Pelly urged to show his potency by becoming a regular scorer for Luton

Hatters boss Nathan Jones believes midfielder Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu should becoming far more of a regular on the scoresheet for Luton after his first goal of the season at the weekend.

The 23-year-old took Jonathan Smith’s pass to blast home Town’s final goal in their 4-0 win at Yeovil Town on Saturday, as he netted for the first time in 42 games, since the 1-0 home win over Dagenham & Redbridge on April 12, 2016.

It took his tally to just six in 104 games for the club, as Jones said: “We showed we have a real good side to us, a strong side, one that has a real threats all over the pitch and it was great to see Pelly Ruddock score as that was a long time coming.

“He should do that more because he has that potency.

“He’s played in a number of positions but when we have played him either side of the diamond, he can do that and it was great to see him score as he’s in some wonderful form at the minute.

“The only thing that has been missing has been goals, so hopefully he can add that.”

Meanwhile, striker Danny Hylton admitted he felt a touch of sympathy for any opposition player coming up against the resurgent Mpanzu, whose injury problems appear a thing of the past having completed Town’s last 13 matches in a row.

He added: “That kid has got everything, pace, power, he’s agile too. You want to play him in a defensive role you can play him in a defensive role, you want to play him in an attacking role, you can play him in an attacking role.

“You want to play in the side of the diamond, he can play everywhere. Maybe one thing you say is he doesn’t score enough goals.

“But when he got the ball on the corner of the box and had that defender one-on-one, I feel sorry for defenders when they get him one-on-one.

“Because he’s a big boy and looks so strong and powerful, but people don’t realise how agile he is. He can literally just walk past you and he did that.

“It was a great strike into the bottom corner, so I was delighted for him.”
