The 23-year-old who is out of contract in the summer, has featured 10 times under the new Town boss since he took over in January, starting five matches in that time.

When asked if any talks had taken place over the prospects of a new deal, Ruddock Mpanzu said: “Not yet, I’m not focusing on that yet, I’m just trying to play games and get three points for the team.

“But hopefully in the coming weeks we can discuss that.

“I’d like to stay, Luton’s a great club and moving in the right direction and I wouldn’t mind staying here at all.”

Boss Jones appeared to talk up the possibility of Ruddock Mpanzu remaining with the club for the foreseeable future too as speaking to the press today, he said: “Pelly’s a player we like here, a lot of things have happened with him and he hasn’t quite been right and it’s now nailing him down in a position we feel he can really take us forward with.

“But we like Pelly, he’s versatile, he’s athletic, a good character.”

On just where he thinks Ruddock Mpanzu can play, Jones continued: “He has the potency to do number of positions, but I think as a central midfield player, I think he has good attributes.

“He has to learn the position as he could have done better on a few occasions, but he’s a positive player, who we like that, good attitude, trains well so he’s got a chance.”

That would be music to the former West Ham man’s ears as when asked where he feels his best role in the side was, Ruddock Mpanzu said: “I love playing centre mid, but if the manager says I’m playing right back, centre back, upfront then I’ll try and do the best I can.”
