AFC Dunstable’s penalty shoot out hoodoo still hangs around their necks after they went out of the Dudley Latham Memorial (Premier Division) Cup on Tuesday night at Cockfosters.

Manager Steve Heath decided to rest a few players after the weekend exertions so the squad had a new look to it.

Hosts Cockfosters who also made an exit from the FA Cup on Saturday took an early lead after seven minutes, when the unmarked Sivi Baio headed home.

As the half progressed, both teams cancelled each other out, with chances few and far between.

After the break, the game opened up and AFC started to increase their tempo from the hour mark.

They dominated for most of the remainder of the half as Danny Jones’ cross was headed just wide by Brandon Carney on 72 minutes.

With four minutes into added time, a goalmouth scramble resulted in a home defender putting through his own net.

That saw the game go to penalties and AFC were beaten 5-4, meaning in their entire history, they have won just three shootouts.

AFC are back in league action this weekend when they visit Oxhey Jets.
