Pennell’s equaliser earns Dunstable a point at Cambridge City

Dunstable Town continued their impressive run of form with a 1-1 draw at Cambridge City on Saturday.

The visitors, buoyed by an emphatic 4-0 win over Kettering in the week fielded, as expected, an unchanged side, but among the substitutes was another new signing, former Alloa Athletic striker Geoff Mitchell.

In the first half, Adam Watkins had the best moment, with his firm effort requiring City keeper Zac Barrett to make good stop.

With Watkins outstanding in midfield plus assured play from both Luke Pennell and Zack Reynolds, as David Keenleyside’s corner was majestically palmed away by Barrett.

Cambridge threatened sporadically as Michael Malcolm’s effort was cleared off the line by Pennell, although Dunstable were back in the ascendancy as Matt Nolan was denied by Barrett, with the keeper also repelling Victor Osobu’s effort.

Watkins won a loose ball and fired just wide, while Danny Talbot’s free kick was also stopped by the home keeper.

In the second period, Steven Gregory’s header drew another good stop from Barrett, while Mitchell made his debut as a substitute for Nolan.

However, City then took the lead on 71 minutes with a good finish from Danny Kelly, although Dunstable levelled moments later, Pennell converting a corner.

Lee Roache and Jemale McKenzie-Lowe both came off the bench, while Cambridge sub Joel Norris missed a glorious opportunity, blasting over from 10 yards when unmarked.

Mitchell was then denied a winner by that man Barrett once more as the spoils were shared, with Dunstable travelling to King’s Lynn Town tomorrow night.
