Roache hits hat-trick in Blues’ capital showing

Dunstable Town 4 London Colney 0

A brilliant Danny Mead free-kick and a fantastic hat-trick from hotshot marksman Lee Roache saw Dunstable score a 4-0 victory over London Colney in their top-of-the-table clash at Creasey Park on Tuesday night.

It was a comprehensive victory over their previously-unbeaten rivals as Dunstable extended their lead at the summit in real style.

The Blues attacked relentlessly from the start and dominated the midfield throughout, taking the lead on 21 minutes when full-back Mead curled powerfully into the top corner from just outside the box.

Striker Roache, pictured, was in awesome form and netted a second hat-trick to seal victory alongside other good performance from Tony Burnett and Nathan Frater.

Newly-promoted London Colney had shown their pedigree with a run of good results before this match and, although they played some nice football, were overwhelmed by the Blues.

In fact they were totally outplayed by Dunstable who responded well to the criticism following their 2-2 at lowly Stotfold on Saturday, Fabio Bufano netting a late equaliser after Tony Burnett had put Town ahead.

Dunstable continued to play with style and doubled their lead five minutes into the second half when Roache turned superbly in the box and expertly stroked past Mark Whitmore.

Colney tried to respond and last man Shane Wood was fortunate not to be sent off when he robustly ended a Colney counter on the edge of the box. On-loan Luton keeper Lewis Kidd then got down well to save at the feet of Dave Keenleyside.

Moses Olaleye marshalled the midfield with peerless authority and Roache headed home a corner on 67 minutes before completing his hat-trick four minutes from time with an astute finish from inside the box.

Director of football John McLoughlin said: “It was a fantastic performance, the players bounced back after Saturday superbly. On this performance no-one will beat us but we need to be consistent week in, week out. Leon Cashman, Moses Olaleye, Fabio Bufano and Lee Roache showed why we signed them. We have now set the standards but I went home with a huge grin on my face.”

Dunstable travel to Tring Athletic on Saturday.
