It was Ampthill that looked most likely to take the early initiative and forced Kyle Forster in the Rovers goal to answer some early questions.

Rovers rode the early storm and gradually started to get into the game though as skipper Paul Andrews was denied by the crossbar after diverting a Luke Abraham set piece goalwards.

Keshi Anderson was also starting to impose himself, causing Ampthill to use some rough tactics to stop him.

The second half saw a more determined Barton and their superior fitness levels were starting to take affect.

After 70 minutes, full backs Niran Vaughan and Luke Abraham made way for rapid wingers Rhys Hoenes and Kenny Ogbuaga.

Both made an instant impact and the breakthrough came in the 76th minute, as star man Anderson danced past several Ampthill defenders to find the roof of the net at the second attempt.

Ricky Case almost increased the lead in the final few minutes with a shot that Martyn Conway did well to keep out.
