Rovers fight back to earn a point at Ashford

Barton Rovers fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Ashford Town (Middx) in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central on Saturday.

Mark Bitmead (10) and Matt Baxter (29) had put the home side 2-0 up at the break, but second half strikes from Bobby Dance (65) and Jermaine Hall (79) earned the visitors a share of the spoils.

Phil Smeaton and Jonny McNamara almost won it for Rovers but forced good stops from the Ashford Town keeper as Rovers were unlucky not to triumph.

Meanwhile, all the goals came in the first half as Barton Rovers reached the final of the North Beds Charity Cup with a 2-1 victory at Biggleswade United on Thursday night.

Defender Anton Blackwood gave Rovers an eighth-minute lead with a 30-yard piledriver, only for Ollie Peters to cancel out his strike on 22 minutes.

However, Barton emerged victorious thanks to McNamara’s strike on 31 minutes.

Rovers will meet Langford in the final, the date and venue are yet to be decided.

On Thursday, Barton head to Aylesbury, then entertain Chalfont St Peter on Saturday and on Tuesday host Uxbridge.

Rovers Reserves meet AFC Dunstable in the Beds Intermediate County Cup on Wednesday, kick-off is 7.45pm at Stotfold FC.
