Rovers roar back to form with excellent victory

Bedfont put to the sword

Barton Rovers halted their poor run of results with an emphatic 4-1 win against Bedfont Town, thanks largely to Bilal Hassan’s hat-trick, in Zamaretto Southern League Division One Central on Tuesday night.

Russell Bull had a one-on-one saved by Gary Ross after only four minutes before Hassan slammed home a similar chance three minutes later.

Ross again denied Bull and the visitors levelled on 27 minutes when Russell Miner got a touch to deflect the ball home.

Rovers stepped up the pace and retook the lead 10 minutes later when Bull tapped home after Hassan’s shot had been saved. The striker then squeezed home his second to make it 3-1 at the break.

Bedfont looked to hit back after the interval, but Richard Wilmott in the Blues goal made some excellent saves to keep them at bay.

Barton then put the game to bed just after the hour when man of the match Hassan was upended in the box and Ross was shown a red card. Matt O’Brien took the gloves but Hassan completed his treble from the spot.

A Lee Wilson corner almost crept in and substitute Colm Keirans’ audacious lob from 30 yards rebounded off the bar.

The victory moves Barton three places up the table ahead of the visit of Rugby Town on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Ben Gallant’s deflected shot was enough to condemn Rovers to a 1-0 home defeat against Leighton Town at the weekend.
