Dunstable Town were worthy winners as they set up an FA Cup second qualifying round tie at Conference South side Hemel Hempstead Town by beating Chesham 2-1 on Tuesday night.

The hosts were missing the influential Darren Purse who had marshalled their defence in the first game, but other than that they were unchanged, while Dunstable moved Gary Mulligan to centre-forward and David Hutton started.

Scott Davies tested Shane Gore with a free kick early on, while Chris Marsh fired over and Davies again was denied by the keeper.

After a goalless first half, the breakthrough for the visitors came from a set-piece as Davies’ delivery fell nicely for Nick Beasant to open the scoring on 62 minutes.

The strike fired up the home side and caused a loss of momentum from Dunstable as they levelled with 10 minute to go when Inih Effiong’s cross and Simon Thomas fired home.

However, with time running out, Dunstable brought on Jemale McKenzie –Lowe and Elliot Sandy as the visitors poured forward.

It paid dividends too as from a corner, Sandy nipped in to restore the lead.

The Bles could have made it more comfortable, but following McKenzie-Lowe’s fierce drive, Sandy’s effort hit the foot of the post.

The league programme resumes Saturday with Chippenham Town the visitor’s to Creasey Park.
