Seagulls boss backs Walton to progress with Hatters

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton believes that young goalkeeper Christian Walton is in the perfect place to continue his development after signing for Luton Town on a season-long loan this morning.

The 20-year-old stopper will be Hatters’ number one after agreeing to move to Kenilworth Road, where he will link up with Hatters boss Nathan Jones, who was first team coach at the Amex prior to his switch to Luton.

Hughton told the Seagulls official website: “Christian wants to play week-in, week-out in order to continue his development, and it’s something he needs at his age, but with the goalkeepers we have at the club it’s not something we can offer him in the coming season.

“However, we know Christian has all the attributes to become a top goalkeeper and a season playing under Nathan’s watch at Luton will serve him well and help him to continue to progress.”
