Luton Town's first signing of the summer Alan Sheehan has targeted a regular slot at centre back for the coming season.

The 29-year-old, who signed a two year deal at Kenilworth Road last week, played the majority of his 20 matches in the heart of Hatters’ defence last term, although was shifted out to left back on occasion.

However, when asked where he’d prefer to play next campaign, Sheehan said: “I’d like to play centre back because I can get on the ball and play some football, control the game.

“I can start off some passes and get in the mixer a bit more so probably I would prefer there.

“I think that’s where the manager wants me too.”

Sheehan began alongside Scott Cuthbert, until the captain got injured, and then he formed a good understanding with on-loan Brighton defender Glen Rea.

On the defensive duo, Sheehan said: “I had a great partnership with Scott.

“Scotty was playing really well and then he got injured, then Glen Rea came in and was excellent.

“He can play holding midfield, centre back, he’s a very, very good player, a great lad, so me and him got on really well.

“We really enjoyed our football at the end of the season.”
