Single goal sees Dunstable Town through in Red Insure Cup

Dunstable Town battled into the second round of Calor Southern League Red Insure Cup with a 1-0 victory over Aylesbury at Creasey Park on Tuesday night.

Danny Hutchins scored their only goal after 27 minutes, while Chris Marsh missed a late penalty as the Blues progressed.

Dircetor of football John McLoughlin said: “We had a good result bearing in mind we used the match to look at some reserve players and gave some squad players a run.

“It shows that we have a great squad of players and that the reserves can step up if needed as Aylesbury were at full strength. So the infrastructure of the club is right.”

Lee Roache, Tony Fontanelle and Damen Pickering all had good first half chances, but it was Aylesbury’s Jerome Federico who went closest when his shot struck the underside of the bar.

Dunstable’s goal came from an excellent Hutchins free-kick as he drilled home from just outside of the area and into the bottom right-hand corner.

Federico had an eventful second half as he was cautioned for simulation after claiming that he had been fouled by Marsh.

Roache went closest to adding a second from open play, while Marsh missed a penalty to make for an anxious last few minutes, but in truth Dunstable never looked like conceding.
