Barton Rovers were held to a 1-1 draw at home by local rivals Bedford Town at the weekend.

It was the second fixture in 10 days between the two sides, as Rovers had run 2-0 winners in the Beds Senior Cup.

Town got off to a brisk start with Rovers having to defend a couple of early corners, while home keeper Kyle Forster saved comfortably from Josh Beech.

At the other end Lucas Perry hit the side netting for Barton before Russell Bull headed wide from a corner.

In the second half lived, Rovers had the upper hand and should have opened the scoring on 50 minutes but Warren Plowright saw his shot cleared off the line, while moments later Ashton Grant’s efforts went narrowly wide.

Against the run of play, Bedford opened the scoring on 75 minutes when Josh Beech tapped home from close range.

Parity was restored shortly after though as Grant found the net, while try as they might, Barton couldn’t force a winner.

Rovers are away to Leighton Town on Boxing Day, kick-off at 12.30.
