The 30-year-old skippered Oxford United to promotion from League Two last term, before agreeing a two year deal with Luton.

He was also captain when Rotherham United went up back in 2013, although Luton already have Scott Cuthbert as the club captain, while Alan Sheehan filled in last season due to injury.

But when asked if he would like to be skipper, he said: “Yes, it’s something I enjoy doing, I have the experience of getting out of this league and I can’t tell you how much I want to do it again.

“I want to go up, but it is what it is and it wouldn’t faze me if I wasn’t captain.”

Even if he wasn’t, Mullins believes his double promotion from the division can help rub off on some of his new team-mates.

He continued: “I hope so, I hope the experience will help.

“Certain stages of the season will be things I’ve experienced before, while there’ll be younger players who can help me through and we’ll all help each other, as it’s a squad game.

“There’ll be certain things I can help others with and hopefully there’ll be people who can help me through certain periods as well, you just have to roll with it.”
