A topsy-turvy tussle saw Dunstable Town endanger their season-long unbeaten Molten Spartan SML Premier Division record as they claimed a 3-3 draw at Haringey Borough on Saturday.

In their last away day of the season Dunstable battled back from a surprising 2-0 deficit to lead 3-2 until two minutes from time in an entertaining match at Coles Park.

Dean Fenton and Anthony McDonald put the hosts in front, before Blues lead 3-2 after 64 minutes with goals from Lee Roache, Nathan Frater and Tony Burnett.

Borough substitute Demetri Stattis equalised from a free-kick late on though, ending Dunstable’s run of 21 consecutive league victories as director of football John McLoughlin said: “We always knew this would be a tough fixture as Haringey Borough made no bones about wanting to beat us and in fairness they gave us a good game.

“They scored two great goals to go 2-0 up but another great strike by Lee Roache gave us a lifeline just before half time.

“We expressed during the break that we still have a record to go for and again the team produced as they want that record and we produced a great performance in the second half.

“Nathan Frater’s goal was first class and we had them on the rack once Tony Burnett got the third. A poor refereeing decision at the close of play allowed them a free–kick, but they probably deserved the draw.”

Dunstable are just one game away from remaining the whole league season unbeaten, with Hatfield Town the visitors to Creasey Park for the final game of the season on Saturday where the hosts will be presented with the championship trophy.

McLoughlin added: “Now that the league season is over come along and see Dunstable Town FC produce a record that in my opinion will never be beaten. Come and support DTFC and join in the party!”

Blues: Head, Mills, Mead, Leach, Buchanan, Bailey, Cashman, Burnett (Fontanelle), Roache, Frater, Christie.
