Trialist nets twice as Rovers beat Rovers

Barton Rovers were 2-1 winners over Eynesbury Rovers in their pre-season friendly encounter at the weekend.

Two goals from a trialist were enough for Rovers to come out on top as boss Jimmy Gray said: “As usual for this time of year there were plenty of changes on the playing side during the game and we experimented with various formations as we look to find out our preferred option plus learning about what the players we have in the squad can do.

“Pre-season has been a little stop-start due to weddings and holidays, but hopefully after this weekend things will settle as most players are back and we will look to nail down a squad of around 20 players for the coming season.

“We are still running our eye over a number of trialists plus waiting on a few decisions from players that we have offered deals to.

“All in all it has been very positive so far and myself and my assistant Mark Boyce are looking forward to the coming season.

“We will need to stay patient due to the amount of changes we are implementing as a squad and a club but I’m sure we are building something, not just for this season, but for the foreseeable future.”

Meanwhile, Barton were also victorious on Tuesday night, winning 4-3 at Berkhamsted.
