Veterans Football round-up: Bedfordshire Veterans Nine-A-Side League

The quarter-finals of the Bedfordshire Veterans Nine-A-Side League Cup and Plate took place on Sunday.

The Cup games saw The Lutonians edge out neighbours Latino Heat 4-3, Real Social Dads of Leighton Buzzard ease past Dunstable Town Vets 4-0 and D&S Real Ballers narrowly overcome Hastbyns United by a single goal.

Kempston Town Vets and Punjab had no such problems in despatching Shefford Town & Campton Blues and Marston Reds 4-2 and 8-0 respectively, while Sundon Vets still have hopes of a second successive Cup win after they beat Luton Sporting Club 1-0.

The Plate matches were a close affair as Harlington Vets went down 2-1 to Shefford Town & Campton Whites, while Brickhill Wanderers Vets nearly staged an amazing comeback after trailing 4-1 to Bedford Royals with Clive Burgess (2), Keith Purslow and Steve Ball netting for Royals.

Wanderers equalised late on to make it 4-4, but two saves by Bedford keeper Paul Brace in the penalty shoot-out, plus a cool Phil Nicholson finish, saw the Royals reach the semis.
