An early strike from Tony Burnett and Leon Cashman brace, all in the first half, saw Dunstable Town to a 3-0 victory over Aylesbury United in Calor Southern League Division One Central on Saturday.

Three first half goals inside 35 minutes meant Dunstable were always comfortably in control against a surprisingly lame Ducks side.

Director of football John McLoughlin said: “We looked awesome on Saturday and Aylesbury could not find a way through us.

“Jerome (Jibodu) was outstanding and set up the first goal with a great run and Cross for Tony Burnett to volley home and I am pleased for Tony as he has been patient with injuries this season and Leon Cashman was too strong for their defence and got his two goals for his rewards.

“Adam Watkins was strong again and it’s another clean sheet, we will have another headache this week with Lee Roache and Kyle Anthony returning from suspension.

“We still have an outside change of automatic promotion, but realistically we are looking at play-offs for which we will be ready.

“All around the park we feel we have strength and we must remain focused and make sure players remain disciplined and stay on the pitch.”

Immediately on the attack, Town found great pace on the flanks from Burnett and Chris Marsh, with extra support coming from Luton loan man Jibidou.

And the Blues took the lead after just four minutes when a cross from the overlapping Jibidou was hooked home by Burnett.

Dunstable doubled their lead on 12 minutes when Burnett’s cross was sweetly converted by the in-form Cashman.

Cashman then missed a sitter after Adam Watkins’ shot had struck the bar.

The third goal then arrived on 35 minutes when Cashman headed home although, given their dominance, Dunstable should have been even further ahead before the break.

Aylesbury were never allowed to settle by their hosts, but they improved considerably after the break, only to be let down by some poor finishing.

Dunstable refused to ease off though as a more even second period saw no further goals as Dunstable completed the double over the Ducks.
