Dunstable Town scored twice in each half to secure a comfortable 4-0 Calor Southern League Division One Central win over Aylesbury at Haywood Way on Saturday.

Joint manager Darren Croft was pleased with the victory as the Blues finished the game with 10 men after star striker Lee Roache was sent off for two bookable offences.

He said: “We were comfortable throughout this game and my only complaint is that we should have scored more.

“This takes us to third place which is a good spot to be after six games.

“Danny Hutchins made a solid return at left-back. Our domination of possession underlined our desire to win by a convincing sore.”

Former Luton Town starlet Adam Watkins saw his fierce third-minute penalty pushed against the bar but, despite this setback, the visitors enjoyed more possession and more chances.

And their dominance told half an hour in when Tony Burnett netted Watkins’ cross from close range after good work from Nathan Frater.

A succession of corners tested the home defence and Watkins atoned for his earlier penalty miss by scoring a fine goal from range as half time beckoned.

Both Frater and Roache then went close as the hosts struggled to keep the sore down.

The second half continued in the same way and more Dunstable pressure saw Matt Nolan latch on to a through ball from midfield and round keeper Rhys Lawrence to slot home on the hour.

Two minutes later Roache took on a throw and finished skilfully before controversially being sent off for two bookable offences.

However, it made little difference as their beleaguered hosts struggled to threaten and managed just two attempts on goal.

This win moved Town into third place and on Saturday they go to Molten Spartan SML Premier Division side Hertford Town in first round qualifying of the FA Cup and on Tuesday they host Potters Bar Town in the league.

Joint boss Paul Reeves added: “This is a good boost for our tricky away tie to Hertford Town in the FA Cup next week.

“We felt that the second caution for Lee Roache was too harsh, but he will only miss one game through suspension.

“He should be back well in tie for the huge clash with league leaders Daventry.”
