In his newly published book on Luton Town Football Club, journalist Rob Hadgraft says he has a long-held theory about Hatters fans, writes Geoff Cox.

“Wherever you are in the UK, possibly wherever you are on Planet Earth, you are never more than a couple of hundred metres away from a fellow Luton supporter,” he claims in Luton Town: The Non-League Years.

That may well be true, but what’s not in dispute is that the Bedfordshire club’s loyal army of followers has backed the team through thick and thin throughout its 129-year history.

I’ve dipped into the vast Luton News picture archive to present this slideshow of LTFC fans supporting the club, home and away, during a period spanning more than 50 years.
