Vinny hits four in Crawley Green romp

VINNY Shrieves scored all four goals as Crawley Green won 4-1 at Bedford in their Molten Spartan SML Division One Cup quarter-final clash on Tuesday night.

Shrieves gave notice of his intent in the opening minutes when he headed over from a James McCarthy cross before McCarthy then shot wide from Adam Reid’s corner.

Green broke the deadlock three minutes before half time when Robbie O’Dell crossed for the diving Shrieves to head home.

Crawley started the second half well with Gary Capehorn and Lee Loasby both going close, only to see Bedford level on 59 minutes with a fine free-kick from Keith Thomas.

Less than a minute later though, Green restored their lead as Reid fed Shrieves who finished well.

The home side rallied as Reid’s clearance rebounded off Lee Loasby and hit the bar.

Crawley made the most of their good fortune as O’Dell again was the provider for Shrieves to complete his hat-trick after 84 minutes.

Shrieves had his fourth when he turned in a cross from Stuart Strange to set up a semi-final with Cockfosters or Harpenden Town. This weekend, Crawley Green travel to Stony Stratford Town and their reserves host Welwyn Garden City.
