Walton not expecting recall despite injury to Seagulls stopper

Hatters on-loan keeper Christian Walton isn't expecting to have to cut short his loan spell at Kenilworth Road despite an injury to Brighton's first choice stopper David Stockdale last week.

The Seagulls’ number one had to go off in stoppage time against Nottingham Forest on Friday night after suffering a blow to his shin, but with Walton’s parent club having Niki Maenpaa and also Casper Ankgergren on their books, he doesn’t anticipate being recalled even if the injury was a serious one.

Walton said: “I think it’s just if there’s one fit professional keeper at the club they can recall me, but that won’t be the case.

“They’ve got depth of keepers at Brighton for that back up, they’re allowing me to come here to play, so I wouldn’t think that would be a problem.”

After starting all three of Luton’s games so far this season, the 20-year-old is relishing his chance to be Town’s first choice keeper for the duration of the campaign, particularly with the side back in action again on Tuesday night at home to Newport County, their third match in seven days.

He added: “That’s what I’m here to do, get my games, they’re coming thick and fast, so I couldn’t ask for any more.

“I just loving playing football, and that buzz you get every match day, I love it, so I can’t wait for all these games.”
