The 20-year-old agreed a season-long loan from Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion recently, linking up with Luton boss Nathan Jones once more.

Walton made 10 appearances while at Plymouth and Bury last year, but with Mark Tyler and Elliot Justham leaving Hatters over the summer, is expected to be handed the mantle of first choice goalkeeper.

He said: “Last year was a bit of a tricky season for myself, I didn’t get as many games as I’d have liked, as any young player needs to be playing games now.

“The U21 football is good to a certain stage, but after you’ve played it for a couple of years you need to get out and test yourself against men week in week out and playing in front of those crowds which I’ll be doing this year.

“So it’s going to be a big season for me and a big season for Luton, and I’m looking forward to plying my trade here.”

Being number one at Brighton, a club he has been with since he signed from Plymouth as a 17-year-old, remains Walton’s long-term ambition, but he knows to do that, he has to perform for the Hatters first.

He added: “That’s the main aim for me, that’s the goal, but while I’m here I’ve got to put that to the side and focus on what I’m doing here and playing my games.

“When I’ve got that experience, it will probably be a bit easier to fit into that number one spot at Brighton.

“But I want to focus on my task here and go back at the end of the season knowing I’ve done what I had to and hopefully impress the people at Luton football club and impress the fans.”
