Winning run ended for AFC but they still make a point

AFC Dunstable’s 100 per cent Premier Division record came to an end as they were held to a goalless draw by London Colney on Saturday.

The hosts went into the game unbeaten in 30 league matches, while AFC saw Jermaine Hall recover from injury to partner BJ Christie upfront.

Chances were few and far between in the first half, although on two minutes, a rasping Leon Cashman drive was superbly saved by Charlie May.

AFC keeper Ricky Perks was then called into action as he stood his ground well to deny Ewington, while Josh Humbert had the ball in the net for the visitors, but was flagged offside.

In the second period, AFC had the ascendancy, dominating possession, and they came close to breaking the deadlock as Jonathan Cooper picked out Christie, who lobbed over the bar.

Colney forced a handful of corners in response, as they regained the initiative in the closing stages, but AFC’s defence held firm to stay at the top of the table, one point ahead of Hadley, who were involved in cup action.

AFC boss Steve Heath was satisfied with the outcome, saying: “We came to win the game but must be pleased with the point.

“There were two strong sides out there and for a 0-0, it was an entertaining game.”

AFC travel to high-flying Ryman Premier Division side Leiston this weekend in the FA Cup first qualifying round.
