Footballers funded by sandwich sales

Young footballers in Luton and Bedfordshire are getting funding from the sale of sandwiches thanks to Subway’s new project.

The Luton Town Football Club youth team, Leighton Town Youth FC and Dunstable Town Youth FC will be given 10p from every sale of selected Subs in Luton, Dunstable and Leighton stores.

It’s part of Subway’s commitment to give something back to the local community, and provide nourishment for the young sportsmen.

Luton store owner Yatin Trivedy said: “Sport plays an essential part in our community and we hope to help these young players get the things they need with everyone’s support.

“Whatever we raise will go straight to the club, so the more support we get, the better it is for the kids.”

Football clubs will determine what the money is spent on and the offer will run until the end of the season.

James Hatch, Community Football Development Officer said “We’re so delighted that Bridge Street, George Street and New Bedford Road SUBWAY® Stores will be donating money to Luton Town FC. We’ll be using the funds to create 11 places on our special TIPS course for talented kids who cannot afford to join it.

“We are a community club and for those that wouldn’t usually get the chance to join the TIPS course will really benefit from the support the Luton community and local parents gives us by buying the selected Subs from these SUBWAY® Stores.”

The selected subs will be the previous Premium Sub range.

The Bedfordshire SUBWAY® Stores involved are 29 High Street North in Dunstable, Leighton High Street in Leighton, Bridge Street, George Street and New Bedford Road in Luton.
