Gallagher nets first win

Luton youngster Chloe Gallagher won her first grade three tournament with victory at the ninth Weald Open in association with Inter Sport of Lewes U9 girls singles event earlier this month.

The youngster came through her group stage by beating Freya Biggs, Zoe Nicholson, Evelyn Kilsby and Sophia Furse.

She then had to save three match points to see off Cydney Crumbie in the semi-final before defeating Alicia Dudeney to emerge victorious.

Chloe was then in action in the Wigmore Moor Park Open Tournament U9 girls singles where she finished third.

She played Andre Pineda, one of the top two girls in Britain during the group stages and won a set, before eventually losing, but recovered to defeat Mary Kershaw, Charlotte Laing, Zoe Craven and Greta Griceviciute.

In the knockout stage, she beat Orian Parkins-Godwin before losing to another of the top players, Sophia Underwood, in a final set decider.

She then played in the Letchworth Open Tournament U9 singles event last month too.

There, she beat Catherine Hodge and Laing to reach the semi-finals where she took on Underwood again, going down 7-3, 7-3 .

Meanwhile, last month, Chloe played for Bedfordshire against Suffolk, Norfolk, and Cambridgeshire, winning all of her singles and doubles, meaning she is still unbeaten in the 13 times she has represented her county.
